Was it Sally, the shop dog, a gorgeous, customer-favorite black Lab whose been with Black Dog Salvage owners Mike Whiteside and Robert Kulp (our Stockists in Roanoke, VA) from a pup, or her predecessor, Molly, who taught Sally the ropes and for whom Black Dog Salvage was named, or the incredibly talented and happy owners and staff of Black Salvage Dog whose “star quality” captured the imagination of Trailblazer Studios and Figure 8 Films that led to DIY networks creation of SALVAGE DAWGS which chronicles the adventures of Robert and Mike as they reclaim vintage architectural elements and oddities?
I’m guessing when you tune in tonight when the first episode of SALVAGE DAWGS airs at 11:00 p.m. EST and again Friday, Nov. 9 at 9 p.m. EST and Sat., Nov. 10th at 8am EST you’ll probably discover, as I have, that this is a special place, with special people with a special mission, “Turning Salvage to Style”, all of whom have heart, good humor and joy for what they do. http://www.diynetwork.com/salvage-dawgs/izard-house/index.html

Blog, email,Facebook tweet, chat, pin…spread the word and share this exciting event with customers, family, friends and neighbors. With any luck there will be more episodes to come…, maybe a spin-off, a movie premier, the red carpet…Oh, maybe I am getting ahead of myself…but, with so much talent who knows what’s next?
So before they all become “really big stars” and I will have to say, “I knew them when…” I’d like to share my recent chat with Christa and Courtney, (Sally had a previous engagement) and Mike and Robert were on a salvage mission.
COURTNEY CRONIN-Resident Artist
If there was ever a born “repurposer” it must be Courtney. Her earliest memories are of her family painting, painting everything from furniture to canvases. Her woodworking and carpentry skills further fuel her passion, not to mention her Art degree, and an eye for color. Her greatest joys come from looking at a piece and imagining what it can be-like this bathtub turned sofa.
With a healthy gift of imagination and her discovery of Chalk Paint™ Courtney has no bonds. “At Black Dog Salvage I have a multitude of sourced items and free creative reign-though the end result it is often a collaborative effort”.
When I asked Courtney what she thought the future held for her she replied, “I hope it is more of the same. I love what I am doing and I am content to go wherever that takes me”
CHRISTA STEPHENS – Sales and Marketing Manager
“My past life was as a Marketing Manager for Time Life, Inc in Alexandria, VA – managing broadcast media (tv commercials) for Time Life Music and direct mail for Time Life Books. I loved my co-workers but didn’t realize until I worked at Black Dog how much I enjoyed life outside of a cubicle! We moved to Roanoke for a 1 year Circuit Court Clerkship for my husband, after he graduated from law school – 9 years ago ”
I asked Christa how she came to Black Dog Salvage. She revelaed that after moving to Roanoke, VA, Black Dog Salvage quickly became her “favorite, happy place” and since she frequented it so often she built a relattionship with the owner Mike and the rest is history. She now “happily” wears many hats and heads up a variety of marketing efforts for Black Dog Salvage.
I also asked Christa what was the biggest change from her former corporate life to her new one. I love her answer. “It has given me the opportunity to connect with the community in a way that was never before possible, to know and work with our neighbors, our neighboring businesses and the entire town-something I truly treasure”.
Thanks to all at Black Dog Salvage and best wishes on tomight’s premier.
