Now THIS is a FUN class!! Since Chalk Paint® decorative paint by Annie Sloan will stick to virtually ANY surface, bring two or three small pieces… furniture, mirror or picture frame, lamp or chandelier, or any accessory you have that is ready for a makeover.  Our only requirement is that you can carry the piece(s) yourself with one arm.  You will have full access to all 30 Annie Sloan colors, clear and dark waxes and tools.  An Instructor will be present to guide you and answer questions while you work.  The best part of this class…you go home with pieces that you repurposed YOURSELF!

Bring a piece of your own to paint… the only requirement is that you will have to haul it in and take it with you when you leave as we have no room to store it for you from week to week. Obviously, the smaller the piece you bring, the more likely you are to totally finish the piece in the allotted time. Bring your own sample boards if you prefer to play with color without doing a project. 6” sample moldings are available for purchase.

We will provide the paints and all supplies for your use during this open studio time. Although a staff person will be available, there will be no directed instruction. If you want to learn technique, you are encouraged to register for a formal workshop.

For those of you who insist on “Pottery Barn Black” or “Why isn’t there a brown?”…this is the workshop for you.

Webster defines Mixture…. “The combined elements lose their individual identities and are fused, blended, or compounded in the result”.  Inspired by Annie Sloan’s Work Book published in November, 2012, and her new book “Color Recipes” due to be released in late March, 2013, we will create multitudes of color recipes for your own “Color Book” to be used as a designer’s reference. You will be exposed to the color wheel to encourage you to make your own colors in addition to working from numerous color recipes we’ve been collecting over the past year from other decorative artisans as well as the one’s we’ve been creating in our own custom design work. You will be provided with pre-printed work sheets that will fit into a three-ring binder. If you have reference photos, fabrics or other “inspiration pieces”, please bring them to the workshop

Everyone has brass lamps, chandeliers, candelabra, silver trays, planters, rusted iron, or other metal accessories that are in serious need of an update to extend their useful life. Chalk Paint® decorative paint by Annie Sloan will stick to almost anything metal WITHOUT SANDING OR PRIMING.  Three Annie Sloan decorative painting techniques will be demonstrated based on the finishes chosen by the class participants from numerous samples in our studio. You will be given the freedom to choose your paint colors and techniques from the demonstrated finishes as you paint. Update tired cabinets with Chalk Paint® decorative paint by Annie Sloan!  Bring a cabinet door (no larger than 18”x24”) or a drawer front from your own kitchen or bath. You will learn to test the existing finish to determine what surface preparation is needed. Because there is usually NO NEED TO SAND OR PRIME, the surface only needs to be patched and cleaned.

The group will choose from several options of decorative painted finishes, three of which will be completed in the workshop on sample boards along with your cabinet door.  You will be given the freedom to choose your paint colors and techniques from the demonstrated finishes as you paint. We’ll provide munchies and all supplies for use in class.

Stencil It!

Versatile Chalk Paint® decorative paint by Annie Sloan is durable enough to walk on!  Whether your floor is concrete, vinyl, hardwood, cork or tile, this paint will stick!  You will learn the basics of stenciling as you complete a 2’x3’ floor cloth or a 1’x6’ table runner (please indicate your choice when you register).  Demonstrations will include simple layered stenciling techniques, along with more realistic blended stenciling principles. You will have access to all 30 colors of chalk paint, stencil crèmes and a vast array of stencils to create your own work of art.  We will finish the project with Annie Sloan’s water based lacquer.  Note: All of the techniques in this workshop are suitable for furniture applications.

Chalk Paint™ Workshops

This is a very hands on workshop, you will learn and try your hand at colour layering, texturing the paint, a number of distressing techniques, crackling, crackle glaze, colour washing, colour waxing and gold leaf gilding, using the amazing and versatile Chalk Paint™ decorative paint by Annie Sloan.

We work on wooden boards so there is no need to bring anything with you. This gives you the freedom to study as much as you like in the class, and of course you can take your boards home as a reference. It also gives you the opportunity to try out many of the colours in the Annie Sloan range and experiment with different combinations of colours and finishes. We find this works far better than bringing along a piece of your furniture that will only allow you to do one finish and you may not complete it during the 3 hour workshop.
The price of the workshop includes all of the materials you need in the class as well as coffee and snacks.

Our workshops are curtailed to a maximum of 4 people to give good one to one quality time, this is important for the novice. We also offer the opportunity to purchase gift vouchers - please contact us for details.

Our workshops are run on Tuesday afternoon from 1PM and are strictly by appointment.
Cost of workshop is $185 per person payable at the time of booking.

You will be provided with pre-printed work sheets that will fit into a three-ring binder. If you have reference photos, fabrics or other “inspiration pieces”, please bring them to the workshop. The class fee includes all materials for use in class and a catered lunch.

Now THIS is a FUN class!! Since Chalk Paint® decorative paint by Annie Sloan will stick to virtually ANY surface, bring two or three small pieces… furniture, mirror or picture frame, lamp or chandelier, or any accessory you have that is ready for a makeover.  Our only requirement is that you can carry the piece(s) yourself with one arm.  You will have full access to all 30 Annie Sloan colors, clear and dark waxes and tools.  An Instructor will be present to guide you and answer questions while you work.  The best part of this class…you go home with pieces that you repurposed YOURSELF!
